1. What is the purpose/role of the local church
within the universal Church (the Body of Christ)?
"The local church is designed for Christians to support
each other in our daily walks while here
on earth and hold each other accountable to live our lives for Christ. We are to help each other grow in faith for Christ and worship Him. This is a
place to help equip believers to be
able to go out and make disciples; not necessarily for unbelievers to come in
and be saved. The focus of a local church should not be on
how to bring unbelievers in. The great commission states to go and make; not
just to invite."
2. What role (good or bad) do denominations play
within the universal Church?
"Denominations can help clearly define what we
stand for, and everyone there should stand behind
each other. However, they may allow
unneeded traditions or misinterpretations to be
brought in and take the place of grace for salvation."
3. What authority does the local church have
within the universal Church?
"The local church has full authority to ensure that
false doctrines are not taught and that the pastor
is accountable and responsible for the members of the church. It is able to discipline members and remove them from
membership if they aren’t responding accordingly."
4. Given the many different ideas, doctrines,
beliefs, etc. that separate local churches, how do we encourage unity within
the Body of Christ?
"All true believers should be able to recognize
Christ in others and look beyond the surface issues
that differ by instead making sure that the center of faith is Christ alone. Therefore
unity comes thru humility and knowing who we are in light of God’s grace."
